About The Position

Performs complicated machine work to provide efficient and timely parts requests in an economical and efficient manner. Handles incoming work requests and individual work orders for machined equipment, assists the Foreman to administer available parts and labor toward equipment maintenance while organizing and assembling machining requests for customer welding and machinist repair orders. Assists in troubleshooting and repair of equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 4+ years machinist experience required in related field
  • Welding certification required
  • Must be able to perform machine work with and without the use of CNC software
  • Knowledge of machinist tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of mechanics, welding, and machinery
  • Knowledge of all port related equipment
  • Knowledge of equipment parts
  • Knowledge of computer drafting and designing skills to run machinery programs
  • Ability to communicate with others
  • Ability to climb and be comfortable at heights
  • Organizational skills
  • Judgment and quick thinking skills
  • Ability to give written and oral directions
  • Ability to produce both metric and standard threading
  • Ability to operate bed mills and lathes with CNC capability
  • Ability to perform machine work with and without the use of CNC software
  • A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment

Responsibilities

  • Ensure machine requests are organized and given priority
  • Maintain a readily available supply of consumable materials
  • Maintain all parts and supplies using central stores and inventory systems
  • Work as a mechanic when needed to help with labor shortages and cleaning
  • Dispatch emergency services such as tire repair and repairs to equipment as needed
  • Supervise shop safety of areas assigned
  • Coordinate repairs and workload with the availability of time
  • Minimize cost by engineering alternative designs
  • Assist the Foreman with complex or unusual assignments
  • Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
  • Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor

  • Perform other duties as required
