About The Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for the setup and operation of manual and/or CNC machining equipment. This role requires the ability to make program edits at the machine for CNC equipment and machine components to meet print dimensions and tolerances. Accurate parts measurement using tools such as outside micrometers, inside micrometers, depth micrometers, digital, dial, and vernier calipers, and scales is essential. The position also involves maintaining an organized and safe work environment, driving improvements in the work center for safety and efficiency, accurately completing all paperwork, and keeping up to date with all required trainings. The machinist will work on a variety of parts and processes, potentially across multiple machines, and may resolve most problems and questions within a defined set of parameters. Guidance may be provided to lower-level employees.
Requirements
- Typically, 3 – 5 years’ experience doing similar work
- Understands and buys into a zero-accident safety culture expectation
- Strong shop math skills including arithmetic, conversion of fractions to decimals, basic trigonometry
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical/production drawings including tolerancing
- For CNC machines, a strong understanding of G-code and / or conversational programming
- Knowledge of fixturing and safe / effective work holding
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with cast materials
- Experience with basic rigging and use of overhead cranes
- Firm understanding of turning and milling insert geometries and grades
- Understanding of basic cut conditions including appropriate feeds, speeds and depths of cut
- Previous experience machining stainless alloys
