About The Position

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Machinist/Welder who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Batesburg, SC. This role involves operating machine tools to produce precision parts and performing welding tasks to fabricate or repair metal components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining processes, welding techniques, and safety standards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of manual machinist experience in a manufacturing environment OR equivalent experience
  • An understanding of materials handling and safety procedures
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and SAP Enterprise Software
  • Comprehend test specifications and interpret engineering documents
  • Use precision measuring tools (calipers and micrometers)
  • Detect irregularities and malfunctions, write simple CNC programs, and operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Lift, stand, walk, and work on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Work in a fast-paced environment requiring physical and continual movement
  • Lift or lower items weighing < 24lbs (10.9kg) and Push or Pull efforts < 42lbs (19kg)

  • Welding experience in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
  • Setting up and operating welding equipment and CNC machines to produce parts to specifications (milling machines, lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Programming and making minor edits to CNC programs
  • Monitoring tool life and making adjustments
  • Ensuring parts are machined to the correct dimensions and specifications
  • Preparing welding surfaces and ensuring proper weld penetration
  • Performing grinding, gouging, and other finishing operations on welds
  • Inspecting welds for quality and adherence to standards
  • Maintaining and performing preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with machinery or welding processes
  • Collaborating with team members and supporting other departments as needed
  • Adhering to safety procedures and guidelines as well as company policies and procedures
