About The Position

This position is for a Machinist Repairman within the Power Operations unit at Ameren Missouri's Fossil Fuel Plants. The role involves a general range of plant mechanical equipment installation, repair, and overhaul, with a focus on skilled machinist work requiring precise tolerances. The Machinist Repairman may be responsible for directing an apprentice and works under varying levels of supervision on rotating or day shifts.

Requirements

  • Qualification standards as established in the Apprenticeship Program.
  • If no graduating apprentice is available, must satisfy requirements as prescribed in the Supplementary Agreement on Uniform Practices Regarding Promotion to Machinist Repairman Jobs.
  • Must be accurate, steady, and calm in emergencies.
  • Possess normal physical strength and endurance.
  • Have no color deficiency in vision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general plant mechanical equipment installation, repair, and overhaul.
  • Conduct skilled machinist work requiring tolerances as low as +.0005”.
  • Potentially provide direction to an apprentice.
  • Work from drawings and sketches.
  • Ensure equipment is properly isolated and protected before work.
  • Obtain required materials from the storeroom.
  • Set up rigging and operate lifting equipment.
  • Erect and work from scaffolds.
  • Operate and use mobile equipment, shop equipment, portable power tools, other portable tools, hand tools, and test equipment.
  • Operate acetylene or other cutting/heating torches, checking for explosive gases when necessary.
  • Prepare reports of work done, including sketches if necessary, and complete required forms.
  • Work alone or in combination with other Machinist Repairman or Repairman classifications.
  • Perform similar and less skilled work as required.
  • Carry out prescribed safety precautions and safeguards for self and others.
  • Observe and ensure those under direction observe safety instructions.
  • Perform work without disturbing other equipment.
  • Execute orders quickly and properly.
  • Ensure accuracy of work within required tolerances or specifications.
  • Exercise special care and watchfulness to avoid errors in repair and assembly.
  • Properly use and care for a wide variety of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Dispose of surplus and scrap materials after each job.
  • Keep work areas clean and orderly to maintain good work practices and safety.
