About The Position

The Mill Machinist operates manual and/or computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic work pieces. This role involves entering commands for machine control, selecting and aligning fixtures and tools, loading and unloading work pieces, and monitoring machine operation for malfunctions or deviations from specifications. The machinist will also study blueprints, regulate machine settings, use measuring devices to verify dimensions, and deburr parts. Additionally, the position requires participation in safety and maintenance programs, assisting other employees, and supporting data collection for management decisions, all while committing to the company's CORE Values (GEARS).

Responsibilities

  • Operates manual and/or computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic work pieces.
  • Enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, and CNC.
  • Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified, using hand tools, or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
  • Loads and unloads pieces to be machined, using hoists and hand tools to lift and secure on machining table.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Studies blueprints and drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Regulates machines for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, etc.
  • Uses micrometers, calipers, dial gauges, or other measuring devices to verify dimension and alignment.
  • Deburrs parts with grinder, sandpaper, emery cloth, etc.
  • Follows, assists in the development, and promotes the safety and maintenance programs.
  • Assists other employees, company management, vendors, visitors, and customers when needed.
  • Supports and participates in all efforts (including time recording and required paperwork) to collect information that allows management to make data-driven decisions.
