About The Position

Ellwood Crankshaft and Machine is the world's leading manufacturer of large, one-of-a-kind, multiple-throw crankshafts. ECM's products and services include crankshafts and eccentrics used in mechanical stamping presses, reciprocating air and gas compressors, reciprocating pumps, engines, mechanical shears, rock crushers, homogenizers and other miscellaneous applications. ECM services the locomotive, shipping, mechanical press, oil and gas and compression markets. ECM is currently hiring for the Machinist II position for our Sharon, PA facility. Team members in this position operate large, CNC-controlled crankshaft milling and turning machines. Duties and responsibilities are dynamic and may change over time to suit business needs. The Machinist II position is a non-exempt, full-time opportunity that typically works a 4-on 4-off schedule working 12-hour shifts. Machinist II may workday, night, or rotating shifts as dictated by business needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Read and understand written instructions and work lists
  • Basic shop math skills (Algebra / Geometry)
  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings
  • Read and interpret CNC program manuscripts
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of CNC programs
  • Use precision measuring instruments
  • Experience operating tow motors, overhead cranes, or similar heavy equipment

Nice To Haves

  • 3 or more years machining experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities
  • Familiar with general computer applications
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be results oriented with a strong desire to succeed
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is to operate a large, CNC machines: Loading workpiece into machine, layout and setting program offsets, Monitoring the machining process, identifying and correcting issues, Unloading and deburring of semi-finished part, Indexing carbide inserts, rebuilding and basic repairs of tooling system, Proving out new CNC part programs
  • Basic machine maintenance (simple repairs, filling oil tanks, cleaning out chips and debris)
  • Performing in-process inspection of workpieces
  • Maintaining relevant reports and documentation
  • Keeping work area neat, clean, and organized
  • Operating a metal cutting band saw
  • Turning and centering parts in a lathe
  • Machining drive flats into work pieces using a CNC mill
  • Moving items with overhead cranes, power pushers, forklifts, and other motorized equipment
  • Performs all work in accordance with plant safety rules.
  • Maintains highest quality standards in the execution of all assigned work.
  • Performs other routine labor work as assigned and as required in accordance with production needs.
