The Machinist II, under general supervision, fabricates, maintains, and repairs metal parts, tools, and equipment. This role performs semi-complex jobs of a mechanical nature, manufacturing parts from steel, aluminum, or other materials from drawings, prints, or verbal instruction to a required tolerance. The Machinist II will also manufacture parts consisting of gears, all makes of threads, shafts, adaptors, jigs, and fixtures to very close tolerances. Additionally, this position will assist faculty and students in conducting tasks and experiments, assist faculty with research projects, manufacture, fit, and assemble parts, order parts for machine shop use, and provide support to laboratories and perform necessary maintenance on lab equipment.
