About The Position

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full time, skilled Machinist II to support prototype and job shop machining operations in Bridgeton, MO. This position is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and inspecting precision-machined parts with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience using conversational programming, Mastercam, and Mazatrol to create machining programs for CNC mills and CNC lathes. Candidates must be able to read and interpret blueprints and perform final inspection of their own parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and go/no-go gauges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in machining
  • Experience using conversational programming, Mastercam, and Mazatrol to create machining programs for CNC mills and CNC lathes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, climb, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift heavy materials
  • Ability to access and work within restricted spaces in and around vehicles when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machine tools (e.g., lathe, milling machine) to machine parts
  • Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • Measure parts to close tolerance using precision measuring devices
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product
  • Complete machine programming and set-up as required
  • Analyze specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assemble parts to make and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die designs and construction; shop mathematics; metal properties; and layout, machining, and assembly procedures
  • Apply mastery of skills in adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment, as appropriate
  • Compute dimensions and plans layout and assembly operations
  • Responsible and accountable for producing quality work to prescribed standards, with a focus on continuous improvement to meet customer commitments on schedule and within budget
  • Follow written work instructions
  • Work under minimal supervision on duties and tasks that are frequently non-routine, adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs
  • May perform more detailed task that require deeper knowledge and experience in the specified processes and procedures
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals
  • Able to effectively communicate with other functional departments, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Sales departments
  • Resolve most questions and problems, referring only the most complex issues to higher levels
  • Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues
  • Be a self-starter and demonstrate good decision making ability
  • Must maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures including those which govern the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment (WHMIS)
  • Proper use of required PPE
  • May periodically assist in orienting and training lower level employees
  • May participate in LEAN Events, “Six S” activities, action teams etc.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • If required, perform all aspects of inspection: in-process, final and source
