About The Position

Woodward is seeking experienced professionals for Vertical Mill CNC Machine positions at its Loves Park Campus on AWS 2nd shift (Fri-Sun 3pm-3:30am). This role involves operating CNC or Manual machines to produce precision metal parts. The position requires working 36 hours per week and being paid for 40. Mandatory training is provided for the first two weeks, followed by training on the 1st shift.

Requirements

  • 3+ years Vertical Mill machine experience
  • Knowledge & ability to read and interpret blueprints & GD&T
  • Extensive mechanical aptitude
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Skilled in Set up and operation of numerous CNC or Manual machining equipment such as Lathes, Mills, Swiss, and OD/ID Grinders.
  • Proficient in supporting operations.
  • Knowledge of machine insert and tooling selection.
  • Identifies gap-to-standard and resolves or escalates them per standard processes/procedures.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving common issues that arise during machining processes.
  • Anticipates potential issues and proactively identifies solutions.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and components.
  • Ability to set up and use inspection gaging and hand/power tools.
  • Communicates effectively with team members and supervisors to support workflow and escalate immediate issues.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex Set ups and operates numerous CNC or Manual (Lathes/Milling/Swiss/Grinding-OD/ID) machines, and other machinery to produce precision metal parts according to specifications.
  • Performs supporting operations (ex. manual material removal, sub-assembly, etc.) while following established procedures.
  • Performs 1st piece inspections and is required to train in these processes.
  • Follows detailed work instructions to maintain production efficiency and accuracy.
  • Uses various gages to inspect finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Records and maintains data per operating standards (SOP).
  • Champions 5S principles, develops and refines 5S practices, and ensures consistent adherence to standards across the team or department.
  • Collaborates with front line leadership to integrate 5S principles into broader operational processes.
  • Serves as a safety champion by fostering a culture of accountability within the team.
  • Partners to align safety initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Highly skilled at interpreting engineering blueprints and advanced GD&T knowledge (Level III).
  • Advanced tooling and machining process knowledge (Level III).
  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex issues that arise during machining processes (Level III).
  • Anticipates potential issues and proactively creates solutions to avoid downtime (Level III).
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and components (Level III).
  • Ability to choose, set up, and use inspection gaging and hand/power tools (Level III).
  • Recognizes potential impact to efficiency and collaborates with Team Lead to resolve (Level III).
  • Champions standardized work and escalates when cannot be followed (Level III).
