The Role Under the direction of the Working Shop Supervisor , the Machinist I (Lathe Operator) is responsible for Initiating machining processes, tool selections, feeds, and speeds for a variety of materials.

Requirements

  • Capable of using a micrometer, calipers, and hand tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Skilled on an overhead crane.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of machine shop experience.
  • Wear personal protective equipment most of the time.
  • Work in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds regularly/occasionally.
  • Respond quickly to sounds.
  • Safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • Inspect, measure products and equipment.
  • Use standard office equipment, move files, open filing cabinets and bend/stand as necessary.
  • Work required shift(s): 6:00AM to 2:00PM or 6:00AM to 4:00PM, weekend OT.
  • Understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
  • Understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
  • Communicate with individuals, ability to hear & speak effectively on phone.
  • Complete routine forms, use existing form letters and/or routine oral communication.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, divide and to record, balance, and check results for accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain production rates according to established standards.
  • Notify Supervisor with any problems of procedures or equipment.
  • Performs set-ups and operate Manual Lathe Machine.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Maintain high awareness of safety procedures.
