About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating conventional machines in the Machine Shop, including CNC conversational control mills and lathes. The machinist will be responsible for repairing, revising, duplicating, and fabricating components for jigs, fixtures, dies, machines, gauges, and tools based on verbal instructions, sketches, or drawings. A key aspect of the role is working to precise tolerances of +/- .0005". The machinist will also maintain various types of tooling, such as perforating, blanking, trim, and progressive dies, including timing, checking clearances, and making adjustments. This includes changing components in dies both in the tool room and in the press. The position requires the ability to independently set up all assignments. Additionally, the machinist will set up, operate, and maintain heat treat equipment, including ovens, hardness testers, and dew pointers. The role reports directly to the shift supervisor and may receive direction from others. There is a requirement to train others in the department to enhance their knowledge and abilities. Additional responsibilities may include operating material handling equipment like forklifts or cranes, and performing other non-routine tasks. The machinist is required to provide their own hand tools, measuring tools, and other recommended tools.

Requirements

  • Set-up and operate all conventional machines in the Machine Shop, to include, but not limited to CNC conversational control mills and lathes.
  • Repair, revise, duplicate, and fabricate any component for the jigs, fixtures, dies, machines, gauges, and tools through verbal instruction, sketches, or drawings.
  • Work to tolerances of+/- .0005".
  • Maintain various types of tooling such as, but not limited to, perforating, blanking, trim and progressive dies. This includes timing, checking clearances and adjustments that do not require moving of components that are located with dowels, or dies with progression problems.
  • Change components in dies while in the tool room, as well as in the press.
  • Independently make own set-ups for all assignments.
  • Set-up, operate, and maintain heat treat equipment, such as but not limited to, heat treat ovens, hardness tester, and dew pointer.
  • Reports directly to shift supervisor, but may be given direction by other assigned and authorized individuals in the department or organization. May be required to do work of equal or lower classification.
  • Will be required to train others in the department to help increase new as well as existing individuals knowledge and ability.
  • May be required to perform various other duties in the department, such as operate material handling equipment, forklift, crane, or other.non-routine tasks as assigned.
  • Will be required to furnish own hand tools, as well as measuring tools. and all other recommended tools for now and the future.
