About The Position

Bowhead seeks a Machinist/CNC Programmer to join our team supporting a recently awarded contract providing small arms support to the USAF on Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland AFB, TX. This role involves producing small batches or large quantities of metal parts, ensuring they meet precise specifications, and maintaining quality and safety standards. The position requires proficiency in programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines, as well as maintaining equipment and supplies. The Machinist/CNC Programmer will also be involved in small arms repair, performing machining and/or welding processes as needed, and applying finishes to components.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in computer programming in both FeatureCAM and GibbsCAM.
  • Machinist/Machine Technologist Certificate, to include the following disciplines: Print Reading for Machining Trades, Basic Machine Shop, Basic and Advanced Lathed Operations, Precision Tool and Measurement, Grinders (outside, internal, surface), Welding, Machine Tool Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) CNC Manufacturing Technician, to include the following disciplines: Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Advanced CNC Machining, Operation of CNC Turning Centers, Machine Centers, Statistical Process Control for Machinist, Basic Machine Shop, Precision Tools and Measurement, Print Reading for Machine Trades, Introduction to Computer Aided Design
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Familiar with using standard machinist tools and equipment including, but not limited to, calipers, micrometers, lathes, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, stock pushers, indicating vices and tramming heads.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the secret level.
  • US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with producing small batches or large quantities of metal parts.
  • Ensure products meet precise specifications.
  • Assist with producing machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a CNC machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
  • Prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance and test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development, standardization, and feasibility of design.
  • Provide assistance with small arms repair and perform machining and/or welding processes as needed in support of small arms weaponry.
  • Set up and operate metal working, brazing, heat-training, welding, i.e., Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and cutting equipment.
  • Apply finishes (e.g., Cerakote™) to components to impart rust resistant surface.
  • Other duties as assigned.
