About The Position

This position involves carrying out machining and fitting of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform work accurately. The machinist will set up and operate various machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on parts with close tolerances or unusual requirements. This includes determining operation sequences, skillfully using machinist hand tools, and understanding metal machinability to select appropriate tooling and application parameters (feeds, speeds). Experience in machine shop practice, along with knowledge of CNC machine operation and programming fundamentals, is necessary. All work produced must consistently meet specifications. The role also includes monitoring and changing coolant as needed, performing daily/weekly TPM tasks accurately, and undertaking other duties as assigned by a supervisor within the same or lower salary grade.

Requirements

  • Requires experience, trade skill and knowledge of machine shop practice.
  • Operation of CNC machines including working knowledge of programming fundamentals is required.
  • Requires knowledge of machining practices and techniques, basic mechanical principles and shop mathematics, setups, tooling applications, operating methods, and machinability of materials.
  • Must be a sole US citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • In pursuit (full-time or part-time student) of two (2) year Vocational/Accredited school certificate/degree. Once two (2) year certificate or degree is awarded plus four thousand (4,000) in house machining hours, will move to Machinist A.

Responsibilities

  • Carry through to completion with minimum supervision the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to properly layout and perform work.
  • Set up and operate all available machines and machine tools and perform progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements.
  • Determine operation sequences.
  • Use skillfully all machinists’ hand tools and determine machinability of metals to determine proper tooling selection (geometry) and application (fields, speeds).
  • Operate CNC machines including working knowledge of programming fundamentals.
  • Ensure work produced consistently meets specification.
  • Monitor coolant quality and change coolant as required.
  • Perform daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform other duties as designated by supervisor in the same salary grade or below.
