About The Position

Sierra Lobo is hiring a Machinist A for its Technical Services Department at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility (WSTF). The role performs machinist work in support of the company’s professional and technical capabilities, including test and evaluation, systems engineering, advanced technologies, and specialized fluid and thermal management systems. The machinist must work safely, independently or as part of a team, and perform tasks to the specified tolerances under limited supervision.

Requirements

• Meet all requirements for Machinist B (Job Code 4848).
• Have two additional years of experience beyond the Machinist B requirements, for a total of seven years of machine shop or applicable trade school experience, or a combination of both.
• Pass the Machinist A machine part qualification test before hire or promotion.
• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Pass a physical examination as determined by WSTF physical examination requirements for the job classification.
• Have basic computer skills.
• Meet applicable certification requirements specified in the White Sands Training Database (WTDB).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and demonstrate a safety-first approach for oneself and coworkers.
• Read and interpret complicated blueprints and sketches, and develop sketches from supplied parts when necessary.
• Perform detailed layout work and equipment setups under limited supervision from senior shop personnel or management.
• Safely operate saws, lathes, mills, drill presses, and bench grinders, consistently meeting tolerances of +/- .003 inch.
• Work individually or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.
• Wear required personal protective equipment and promptly communicate safety concerns to management.
