This position involves carrying through to completion with minimum supervision the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to properly layout and perform work. The Machinist A will set up and operate all available machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements. This includes determining operation sequences, skillfully using all machinists’ hand tools, and determining the machinability of metals to select proper tooling and application. Experience, trade skill, and knowledge of machine shop practice are essential. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is required. Work produced must consistently meet specifications. The role also includes monitoring coolant quality and changing coolant as required, and performing daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency. Other duties may be designated by a supervisor.
