This position involves carrying out the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The Machinist A will interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform their work. They will set up and operate all available machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on work requiring close tolerances or unusual requirements. The role also includes determining operation sequences, skillfully using all machinists' hand tools, and determining the machinability of metals to select proper tooling and application parameters (feeds, speeds). Experience, trade skill, and knowledge of machine shop practice are essential. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is required. All work produced must consistently meet specifications. The machinist will also monitor coolant quality and change coolant as needed, and perform daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor within the same salary grade or below.
