About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Machinist 1 in Irvine, CA. The role involves delivering precision machined parts that support the client's production objectives and defense systems. The Machinist 1 will work on-site during the 1st shift (core hours 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM), collaborating with machinists, inspectors, and assembly teams to meet tolerance and schedule targets. The work ensures components meet specifications and assembly readiness for downstream teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) or more years' experience operating and setting up conventional and CNC lathes, mills, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Training in CNC machining, inspection techniques, and shop safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and procedure documents.
  • Proficiency with inspection instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and ability to inspect your own work to hold close tolerances.
  • Ability to perform basic and applied math relevant to geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to work independently, produce quality parts, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties (stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, close vision, color vision) and tolerate shop noise and exposure to mechanical parts and particles.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Fadal and Haas machines.
  • Experience with 4-axis machining.
  • Experience with ESD controls, resistance welding, microscope work, soldering, epoxy mixing, bonding, and handling classified assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC lathes, turret lathes, mills, and other machine-shop equipment to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
  • Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
  • Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials for machining operations.
  • Calculate and set machining controls (speed, feed, coolant flow, depth/angle of cut) or edit NC programs as required.
  • Start and observe machine operation, detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, and make adjustments.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using inspection instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
  • Perform trial runs, maintain and clean machining equipment, and create tooling and holding fixtures as needed.
  • Assist other departments as assigned, including assembly, bonding, soldering, and packaging tasks.
