About The Position

As CNC Machining Manager at Weatherby, you will lead a growing machining department operating across day, night, and weekend shifts. You will provide consistent leadership, develop employees and frontline leaders, and ensure machining operations safely deliver quality parts on time. The Machining Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of machining operations across all shifts. This role manages employees who set up, program, and operate CNC machines and ensures the department achieves goals in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. The manager establishes priorities, monitors production performance, strengthens processes, coordinates equipment maintenance, develops team capability, and ensures output meets specifications, schedules, and budget expectations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ten or more years of machining experience in a precision environment
  • At least four years in a lead or supervisory role
  • Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and operation (Okuma, Fanuc, G-codes, M-codes)
  • Expertise in GD&T, blueprint reading, and maintaining tight tolerances (+/- .001)
  • Fixture design/build and advanced tooling knowledge
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement expertise
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-employment testing includes drug and alcohol testing, physical requirements, and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for machining operations across day, night, and weekend shifts, ensuring consistent direction, communication, and support.
  • Manage employees and frontline leaders who program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment.
  • Develop production plans that align labor, machine capacity, materials, tooling, and priorities with downstream assembly needs.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, evaluate, and develop employees; manage schedules, attendance, PTO, performance, and corrective action with Human Resources.
  • Monitor production records and KPIs, including safety, quality, schedule attainment, labor efficiency, scrap, rework, machine utilization, and downtime.
  • Coordinate routine and preventative maintenance, repairs, tooling, fixtures, and equipment resources to reduce breakdowns and interruptions.
  • Develop, approve, and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, setup documentation, and production records.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Assembly, and other leaders to resolve problems and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, setup reduction, cycle time, workflow, quality, cost, and machine reliability.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, clean, and organized machining environment and ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Create a safe, productive environment and support the well-being of their team-including awareness, training, and education related to safety and substance use.

  • Coach, develop, and evaluate team members per HR policies and employment laws.
  • Manage employee time and attendance, including PTO requests.
  • Participate in interviews, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions if necessary.
