About The Position

The Machining Lead is responsible for leading the machining team while setting up, and operating CNC machines. This role combines hands-on expertise in advanced machining with coaching, scheduling, and problem-solving to ensure efficient production flow. The Machining Lead ensures KPIs in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost are consistently achieved while fostering a culture of precision, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Eight or more years of machining experience in a precision environment
  • At least two years in a lead or supervisory role
  • Proficiency in CNC setup, and operation (Okuma, Fanuc, G-codes, M-codes)
  • Expertise in blueprint reading
  • Ability to maintain tight tolerances (+/- .001)
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement expertise

  • Advanced technical certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the machining department, balancing hands-on machining with team supervision.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes.
  • Manage production schedules and align machining flow with downstream assembly needs.
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate machine operators at all levels, supporting their technical and professional growth.
  • Troubleshoot machining problems, resolve tooling issues, and ensure machines run efficiently.
  • Oversee documentation, ERP/MES production records, and KPI reporting.
  • Coordinate with engineering, supply chain, and production leaders to keep parts moving and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized machining environments.
  • Create a safe, productive environment and support the well-being of their team-including awareness, training, and education related to safety and substance use.
  • Lead with professionalism, integrity, and clear communication. Set the tone through example and effective feedback. Respond to employee questions, concerns, and resource needs. Ensure the well-being of your team and a safe, respectful, and well-maintained working environment.
  • Supervise daily work schedules, job assignments, and flow to meet goals; review data to assess progress and prioritize tasks; pioneer new ways to do things better.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate team members per HR policies and employment laws. Manage employee time and attendance, including PTO requests. Participate in interviews, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions if necessary.
