Works under general supervision to machine metal castings using machine tools ranging from manually operated equipment to automated, computer-controlled machining centers. The role receives instruction from supervisors, engineering, and a computer database, and works to meet customer quality requirements while minimizing inventory. As a team member in a cell environment, the employee helps optimize product flow. The position combines CNC machining and programming. It involves reviewing 3D CAD designs and blueprints, calculating and programming machining operations, translating instructions into CAM programs, preparing geometrical layouts, and determining operation sequences. The employee tests programs through simulations or trial runs, monitors them for blueprint accuracy and safe operation, writes or modifies programs to improve efficiency, and transfers and backs up programs using a personal computer. The role also includes setting up machines, selecting and measuring cutting tools, installing fixtures, machining and inspecting castings, monitoring tool condition, and using gauges to verify tolerances. The employee operates department equipment, maintains an orderly work area, follows applicable environmental, health, and safety requirements, wears required personal protective equipment, reports safety concerns and work-related injuries or illnesses, and attends EHS training. Overtime may be required when needed, and the employee must be able to work shifts.
