About The Position

Under the direction of the Elmhurst Production Leader, the Slitter Operator position is responsible for performing the job duties of operating the slitting & tension leveling equipment. The Operator is assigned to a work cell at the Service Center for the purpose of processing Customer Orders in an efficient and timely manner. This individual will work in an environment that promotes mutual respect, teamwork, employee involvement and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team to meet demands.
  • Must be able to read, write, use micrometers to measure to moderately close tolerances (.0001) and maintain accurate operating, identification, and scrap records.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office products and email.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical ability.
  • Must have good verbal and written skills.
  • Must have knowledge of basic math skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to provide customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-10 years of slitting experience preferred.
  • Previous forklift experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to competently set-up and operate the slitting & tension leveling equipment.
  • May require some guidance and direction, but in general is skilled enough to operate the subject equipment in the way it was designed.
  • Possesses the ability to solve most operating problems with effective solutions.
  • May act as trainer when assigned (“train the trainer” course required).
  • Adheres to all safety procedures & rules.
  • Adheres to all quality procedures at the facility.
  • Processes orders in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Operates equipment to ensure the highest quality standard, while maintaining an effective productivity rate.
  • Participates in equipment maintenance duties as required.
  • Continually inspects finished product for conformance to customer & Materion standards and requirements.
  • Takes appropriate action to prevent escape of non-conforming material.
  • Maintains work area in a neat, clean, and organized manner.
  • Possesses the necessary skills to perform SAP transactions, including, but not limited to, “changing inventory locators” and “PI sheet transaction (transforming)”
  • Participates in team activities as required.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
