About The Position

The roll-forming machine operator is responsible for setting up and operating the roll-forming equipment to produce parts within acceptable quality criteria and making all necessary adjustments to run lines at predetermined speeds. The roll-form operator will also help maintain the equipment by performing die repairs, changing roll-form sections, sharpening punches, and making other necessary repairs as needed.

Requirements

  • Mechanical experience with hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, mallets, and Allen wrenches.
  • Able to use, read, and understand micrometers, steel rules, and gauges to identify defective parts.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be forklift certified or willing to become forklift certified.
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of experience in metal fabrication, preferably in roll-forming.
  • TIG welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a roll forming line, machine, and any secondary equipment needed to produce a defect-free product.
  • Assures product quality by adjusting the machine to material and finished product requirements. Uses inspection gauges to identify workpiece defects or machine malfunctions. Reports machine and product quality issues to supervisors.
  • Conducts minor troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, including coolant changes, cleaning the machine, adding or switching lubricants, and checking the coil on materials about to go through.
  • Completes production records on finished goods, properly documenting and logging all scrap.
  • Operates manufacturing machinery when needed, such as a hoist to place metal coils on and off an unwinder. May use a hand truck, forklift, and overhead crane to move material.
  • Ensure all materials are in the correct location, verify the accuracy of each material's label, and assist with stacking products after they are processed.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned, including projects or assignments to support the plant.
