About The Position

The Machine Operator sets up, operates, and monitors equipment used to manufacture wire and cable products. All shifts available.

Requirements

  • Possess knowledge of specific types of tooling required to manufacture wire and cable
  • Basic understanding of standard measuring instruments such as a ruler, measuring tape, caliper, micrometer, as well as automated equipment used to verify conformance to product specifications
  • Ability to identify information listed on a work order to determine inspection criteria, as well as to verify identification numbers and product types
  • Understand the impact of deviations from specifications
  • Must have basic troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of applicable safety, health, and environmental requirements for performing the job
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Close attention to detail and ability to decide as to whether or not to continue running a product line based upon product meeting dimensional, mechanical and electrical specifications or whether to reject the product and/or shut the line down
  • Able to perform activities requiring physical exertion and dexterity in the handling of materials
  • Able to communicate in English to the extent that required documentation related to production can be completed
  • Good mathematical aptitude and the ability to measure in feet and meters
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review and follow daily priority schedule
  • Review and interpret router and/or drawings of the product to be run
  • Set up the machine and locate the product to be run
  • Load the product to be run (Pay Out) and the take up (the empty spool on which the product will be placed)
  • Start the machine and take a sample to ensure that product is within specification
  • Ability to discern differences in color hue
  • Restart the machine and monitor the line to ensure that specifications are maintained
  • Complete finished tags and/or labels for the completed product
  • Complete other information, as required, and the daily log sheets
  • Perform all work in a safe manner
  • Clean and maintain good housekeeping habits and follow prescribed safety regulations throughout the shift
  • Report any unsafe conditions, maintenance problems, or any other issues that occurred on the shift to the supervisor
  • Attend monthly shift and Safety meetings
  • Be able to work weekends as necessary
