About The Position

This is a 2nd shift position with core hours from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Machine Operator tends packaging equipment, including confectionery printing equipment. This role involves making continuous adjustments to maintain high print quality, filling and cleaning ink fountains, and ensuring proper ink consistency. The operator will perform independent adjustments and corrections to the assigned equipment for efficient operation, inspect all production for compliance with specifications, and take direction from the Packaging Machine Operator. Responsibilities also include completing required paperwork, performing cursory preventative maintenance, calculating and reporting production volumes, and assisting with case packing, palletizing, product feeding, and carton assembly. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work overtime, which may require working varying start times, end times, and weekends dependent on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Tends packaging equipment including confectionery printing equipment.
  • Makes continuous adjustments to confectionery printing equipment to maintain high print quality.
  • Performs the filling and cleaning of ink fountains.
  • Ensures proper ink consistency through thinning with proper solvents.
  • Performs independent adjustments and corrections to the assigned equipment to ensure efficient operation.
  • Inspects all production to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Takes direction from the Packaging Machine Operator.
  • Completes all required paperwork, including volumes consumed, corresponding lot codes, checklists, weight log sheets, and warehouse transfers.
  • Performs cursory preventative maintenance duties on assigned equipment.
  • May be assigned to calculate, compile, and report production volumes as directed by the Packaging Supervisor.
  • Performs all duties assigned within the packaging department including the packing of cases or caddies, palletizing of cases, gathering, mixing, and feeding of product to the packaging equipment, inspection of product, and assembly of cartons or cases.
