About The Position

Spyderco is hiring a Machining Operator for its Manufacturing team in the Grinding Department at its Golden, Colorado location. The role operates grinding and surfacing equipment used to manufacture knife blades and components, performs quality inspections, and may operate machinery used in other manufacturing processes, including CNC equipment, a vision system (CMM), manual mill, drill press, belt grinder, and pneumatic press.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Training takes place on first shift, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for 1–3 months. Compensation is $21–$23 per hour plus a $2.50 shift differential.

The position requires careful handling and inspection of materials and parts, basic machine maintenance, organization and communication, and adherence to safe and clean work practices. Nice To Haves

• Two or more years of experience with single- and double-disk grinders, surface grinders, and spindle grinders (preferred).
• Two or more years of experience operating CNC mills and lathes (preferred).
• Two or more years of experience with setup, adjustments, and operational procedures (preferred).
• Machinist-related schooling programs and/or courses may be considered in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate grinding and surfacing equipment used to manufacture knife blades and components.
• Perform quality inspections and operate machinery used in other manufacturing processes, including CNC equipment, a vision system (CMM), manual mill, drill press, belt grinder, and pneumatic press.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S principles.
• Inspect, load, and unload materials weighing up to 50 pounds onto shelves and into machines.
• Inspect parts promptly using calipers, micrometers, fixtures, and other instruments.
• Count, stack, label, and color-code parts before moving them to the next process.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and department cleaning on a daily or monthly basis.
• Allocate parts to appropriate areas, including areas for passed and scrapped parts.
• Communicate promptly and effectively with the Supervisor, particularly regarding equipment or safety issues.
• Modify basic G-code.
• Take initiative in written and verbal communications and adapt to process changes and improvements.
• Adjust machines as needed to meet product specifications.
• Troubleshoot and assist with production and process improvements.
• Communicate with the Supervisor to obtain necessary materials and supplies.
• Assist other departments as assigned and perform other assigned duties.
