About The Position

The Herff Jones Cap and Gown team, based in Arcola, IL, is looking for a Full Time Machine Operator to join our team. This role involves inspecting component parts for quality, operating automated machinery, learning about product lines, and maintaining the machinery. The operator will also be responsible for cleaning machines, changing needles and thread, and may be asked to work in other departments or on different machinery as needed. The position requires strong communication skills, self-motivation, basic reading, writing, and math skills, as well as physical strength and dexterity for essential job functions. The operator must be able to recognize colors and different cloth styles, and will be expected to sit or stand for 8 hours or longer, with repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, and elbows. Physical requirements include lifting, carrying, grasping, reaching, kneeling, walking, bending, and twisting. The work environment can be moderately to above moderately noisy, and the operator will stand on a fatigue mat for a 10-hour+ shift, regularly lifting/moving up to 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all component parts to make certain they meet quality standards and correspond to the bundling ticket.
  • Operate the automated machinery in your department.
  • Learn about all product lines.
  • Clean machine, change needles, thread, etc. to meet the machine’s needs.
  • Work in other departments and work areas/machinery as needed.
