About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. CAPS (Creative Afterschool Program for Success) is our before and after school program located in at school sites across San Bernardino. CAPS Dismissal Aides coordinate daily student dismissal procedures in alignment with site protocols. Supervise students awaiting pick-up to ensure safety and appropriate behavior by using PBiS strategies and reinforcing positive expectations. Support smooth transitions from program areas to dismissal location. Report behavioral or safety concerns to the Site Coordinator promptly. Assist with crowd control during high-traffic dismissal periods.

Requirements

  • One year experience working with school-aged children in a school program or in other youth-related activities.
  • Must have completed at least 72 quarter units or 48 semester units at an accredited College or University, or pass the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) examination.
  • At least one year experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Available to work 5 days a week as assigned during program hours (varies by grade level) & must have reliable transportation.
  • CPR, First Aid, certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date. Upon initial hiring, employees are required to obtain current negative TB test, and background clearance.
  • Must complete 5 module classes with the SBCUSD CAPS central office within 90 days after hire date: 1) Developmental Trends, 2) Building Relationships with Children and Youth, 3) Understanding the Behavior of Children and Youth, 4) Developing Problem Solving Skills & 5) Homework Assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily student dismissal procedures in alignment with site protocols
  • Use radio communication to request students for pick-up in a timely and organized manner.
  • Enforce EXL sign-out procedures and safety policies by verifying that each authorized adult’s valid government-issued photo ID matches the student’s contact information listed in AERIES before releasing the student.
  • Monitor and supervise the dismissal gate/area to ensure student safety.
  • Maintain orderly flow of student release to reduce congestion.
  • Greet parents/guardians professionally and represent the program positively.
  • Communicate pick-up procedures clearly and consistently.
  • Address routine parent questions and redirect concerns to the Site Coordinator as appropriate. Support conflict de-escalation using professional communication techniques.
  • Ensure AERIES records, dismissal logs, and sign-out sheets are accurate, complete, and updated in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the dismissal area is secure before leaving for the day.
  • Model positive behavior and uphold program standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Follow district safety policies and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in required training and staff meetings.
