About The Position

Sets-up, operates, and troubleshoots various machines within the secondary operations area with limited assistance and supervision in accordance with established shop practices and procedures. This role involves working with machines such as presses, trim machines, automatic tapping machines, sorting machines, and semi-automatic machines including roll ID, hand oval lock, assembly, and sorting. The operator will cycle machines to make adjustments, change settings, and verify clearance of tooling and fixtures. They will also assist other operators, perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) assessments, and communicate issues to supervisors. Reading manufacturing outlines, blueprints, and specifications is crucial for ensuring correct product processing. The position also includes record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and adherence to safety regulations. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the technical coaching of trainees and responding to employee concerns.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Working experience in a high volume manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of machining concepts or techniques
  • Working knowledge of quality and SPC concepts and data collection
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, manufacturing outlines, operational drawings, or work instructions.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and standard units of measurements.
  • Knowledge of SPC, and departmental applications (Shop Floor System)
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Employee will be required to wear personal safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or proper footwear PPE in specified areas.
  • Be familiar with the main health and safety risks and the main environmental impacts relating to the scope of his/her work
  • Be familiar with the site's HSE policy and objectives

Responsibilities

  • Independently sets-up, operates and troubleshoots various machines within the secondary operations area including presses, trim machines, automatic tapping machines, sorting machines and semi-automatic machines including roll ID, hand oval lock , assembly and sorting.
  • Cycles machines to make adjustments or changes settings to verify clearance of tooling and or fixtures for production cycles.
  • Assist operators with specific machine operation and techniques to insure that quality and productivity requirements can be achieved.
  • Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) assessments to assist operators in performing and reacting to the SPC data that is collected.
  • Assist in changing machine settings or tooling to insure requirements are met.
  • Monitor machining functions with ability to recognize and detect defects in the machinery, measuring equipment or instruments.
  • Communicates issues with machine failures or problems with measuring equipment or instruments to Supervisor.
  • Read manufacturing outlines, blueprint, op drawing or part specifications for product specs such as dimensioning, tolerance, number of pieces to process, instruction for tooling or tooling type used to insure parts are processed correctly for specific operations within the area.
  • Performs record keeping, data entry, and housekeeping and follows safety regulations.
  • Communicates with employees and Supervisor issues that may occur during the course of the shift.
  • Assist in the technical coaching of trainees &/or operators.
  • Listens and properly responds to concerns that employees have in regards to the duties they are asked to perform on a daily basis.
  • Comply with Federal, Local or State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • Attend all training provided and adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • Bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
