About The Position

Applied Engineering is seeking a Machine Design Engineer to join its onsite team in Shoreview, Minnesota. The role designs and engineers large-scale, low-volume mechanical systems, including cranes, welded structures, and custom critical-handling equipment. It also develops automation and robotic mechanisms for extreme-duty lifting, motion, and precision-handling applications. The engineer leads mechanical design from concept through modeling, detailing, and release using SolidWorks; manages project requirements and execution; and facilitates internal and customer design reviews. The role includes mentoring junior engineers, collaborating with chief and principal engineers, supporting new business initiatives and engineered-to-order lifting solutions, and working with cross-functional engineering groups to develop design standards and improve processes. The position supports fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning of large mechanical systems, with occasional travel to customer sites. It also involves supplier and Applied partner collaboration and developing mechanical solutions for unique lifting, motion, and automation challenges. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Minneapolis–St. Paul area; relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. The company is employee-owned and describes its work environment as collaborative, flexible, and suited to people who value challenge, variety, and a quicker pace.
