About The Position

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer in its Engineering Group. The role involves creating and implementing machine learning techniques, frameworks, and tools to enable efficient discovery and use of state-of-the-art machine learning solutions across technology areas. Engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance mobile, edge, automotive, and IoT products through machine learning. The position focuses on extending machine learning training and runtime frameworks, improving model efficiency, and developing optimized software and compiler tools that enable AI models to use hardware features. It also involves designing machine learning hardware in coordination with software, applying machine learning techniques to products and customer solutions, prototyping algorithms and frameworks, and conducting experiments to train and evaluate models. The role works independently with minimal supervision and may influence decisions beyond the immediate work group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and 2 or more years of hardware, software, or systems engineering, or related work experience; OR a master’s degree in one of those fields and 1 or more year of related work experience; OR a Ph.D. in one of those fields.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Verbal and written communication skills; the role may require basic negotiation, influence, and tact.
  • Ability to plan, solve problems, and prioritize tasks involving multiple steps.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 2 or more years of experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Caffe, Caffe2, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • 2 or more years of experience in embedded-system development and optimization applied to an ML problem domain such as NLP or multimedia.
  • 2 or more years of experience with a programming language suitable for machine learning, such as Python, R, C, or C++.
  • 2 or more years of experience using statistics and probability, such as conditional probability and Bayes’ rule.
  • 2 or more years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
  • 1 or more year of experience with low-level interactions between operating systems such as Linux, Android, or QNX and hardware.
  • 1 or more year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership, such as Director level and above.

Responsibilities

  • Extend training or runtime frameworks and model-efficiency software tools with features and optimizations using machine learning knowledge.
  • Model, architect, and develop machine learning hardware, co-designed with machine learning software, for inference or training solutions.
  • Develop optimized software—including machine learning kernels, compiler tools, and model-efficiency tools—to enable AI models to use specific hardware features; collaborate with team members on joint design and development.
  • Assist in developing and applying machine learning techniques to products and AI solutions so customers can use them.
  • Develop, adapt, or prototype complex machine learning algorithms, models, or frameworks aligned with product proposals or roadmaps, with minimal guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Independently conduct complex experiments to train and evaluate machine learning models and/or software.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support success at work, at home, and at play.
