About The Position

Works with Lead Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator to facilitate day-to-day operations for the Methodist Lung Cancer Screening Program. Coordinates patient records for current lung cancer screening program patients/participants. Assists with ongoing patient participation requirements. Meets with patients for their lung cancer screening exam to provide information and address patient questions.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in business or health-related field required.
  • Prior experience utilizing computer applications for word processing, accessing databases, internet research, and emailing required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proper Telephone Etiquette
  • Knowledge of medical concepts and terminology.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work tasks.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to determine best course of action in order to reach goals.
  • Ability establish effective working relationships with co-workers, physicians, and patients/family members.

  • Nurse Aide Registry or Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and completes data submission appropriately as required by American College of Radiology (ACR) protocols.
  • Prepares and completes data submission forms as required.
  • Retrieves data appropriately from source documents for data entry.
  • Verifies source documentation matches data submitted.
  • Queries are answered in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Follow-up forms to be submitted monthly.
  • Review reports from ACR to ensure that data submission is current and accurate.
  • Effectively utilizes computer software related to work responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with Business Office staff regarding denial management.
  • Retrieves, assembles, and maintains patient records to meet ACR/Screening standards.
  • Assembles required records from various sources, working with other departments and facilitates to obtain accurate source documentation.
  • Is familiar with and follows Lung Screening eligibility requirements.
  • Ensures others in the department are meeting protocol requirements.
  • Creates, evaluates, maintains, and educates others on source documentation forms utilized to ensure others are meeting lung screening requirements.
  • Assists with internal chart reviews on a regular basis as quality control/performance improvement for the department.
  • Takes the lead on orientation of Data Coordinators.
  • Oversees ongoing lung screening patient participation requirements.
  • Evaluates new patient referrals for eligibility for screening according to current national health guidelines.
  • Confirms shared decision making visit with PCP completed and order obtained.
  • Collaborates with patient to schedule LDCT (low dose CT scan).
  • Coordinates follow-up appointments, as needed, to ensure proper exams, tests, and pathology specimens are completed and submitted, as required by ACR
  • Provides smoking cessation information and refers patients to the National Quit Line.
  • Collects required data from patients for submission to ACR.
  • Collaborates with subjects, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure overall satisfaction.
  • Provides written report of CT scan to patient and provider.
  • Schedules annual exams to ensure participant compliance.
  • Educates patients and physicians on lung screening requirements.
  • Maintains Lung Screening database to facilitate retrieval and communication of information for internal and external requests.
  • Corresponds with vendor when issues with database arise.
  • Relays information to research staff and other departments as appropriate.
  • Maintains open communication with other departments in the health system.
  • Enters patient information into the database.
  • Performs research skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.
  • Is accountable to learn new skills and equipment within the area's specifications and time frames.
  • Competently performs technical skills independently.
  • Takes on additional projects, as needed.
  • Works independently and is self-directed.
  • Demonstrates professional investment in departmental growth.
  • Joins GO2 Screening Centers of Excellence and reviews recommendations for continued improvement, maintaining our certification.
  • May assist with program development and marketing as required/requested.
