About The Position

The Lunch Monitor position at Martinez Elementary School is a school support role responsible for supervising students during lunch periods and on school grounds. The role requires the ability to follow directions, work effectively with elementary-aged children, and maintain discipline according to school and district policies. The position also involves assisting with cafeteria cleanliness and student needs during lunch. A key aspect of the role is understanding and applying the school's Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) strategies and discipline procedures. The job requires the ability to sit for long periods, handle numerous distractions, and possess visual, auditory, and ambulatory acuity. Additionally, the ability to move quickly and possess upper body strength to lift and carry 50 lbs is necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to work effectively with individual and groups of elementary school age children and others.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important.
  • Ability to move quickly from one position to another in response to student needs and upper body strength with the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch periods in serving lines, while eating and during cafeteria dismissal.
  • Supervise students outside the building on school grounds, including playground equipment, ensuring the safety of all students.
  • Maintain discipline in the cafeteria according to school and district policies.
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the cafeteria.
  • Assist students during lunch periods as needed.
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with staff, students, parents and other community members.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to school and district policies and procedures.
  • Understand the school PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) and be able to apply school discipline procedures.
