About The Position

The Lumber Yard Forklift Operator safely operates a sit-down forklift to move, load, unload, and organize lumber and building materials in a yard or warehouse. The role supports daily operations by handling materials efficiently, accurately, and safely. The position is full-time and day shift, although the schedule may vary by location. The work takes place in a fast-paced lumber yard setting and may involve outdoor work in varying weather. Personal protective equipment, including steel-toe boots and a safety vest, is required. The posting also describes the opportunity as temp-to-hire.

Requirements

Previous forklift operating experience is required; lumber yard experience is preferred.
Ability to safely handle long, heavy, or oversized materials.
Basic math and inventory-counting skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong attention to safety and detail.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Frequently lift up to 50 pounds; use a team lift for heavier items.
Stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the shift.
Wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots and a safety vest.

Responsibilities

Operate a sit-down forklift to transport lumber, plywood, and building materials.
Load and unload trucks according to shipping and receiving schedules.
Stack, stage, and organize materials in designated yard locations.
Verify product quantities and inspect materials for damage.
Assist customers or drivers with material pickup when required.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Follow OSHA and company safety procedures.
Perform daily forklift inspections and report maintenance issues.
