About The Position

Build What’s Next in LTL. As our Director of Operations: LTL, you’ll take the lead on nationwide LTL strategy, combining deep industry expertise with the opportunity to strengthen carrier partnerships, sharpen pricing, improve service, and build a more scalable, profitable LTL operation. You’ll own the LTL operation from strategy through execution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in LTL operations, carrier procurement, or logistics management.
  • A proven track record negotiating carrier contracts and managing large-scale LTL programs.
  • Strong knowledge of LTL pricing, carrier performance, and market dynamics.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The ability to lead people, develop talent and hold teams accountable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence presenting to customers and executives.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use technology platforms.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience demonstrating advanced operational leadership will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the nationwide LTL strategy to drive growth and profitability.
  • Manage and negotiate relationships with 30+ regional and national carriers, securing competitive tariffs, reliable capacity, and strong service.
  • Oversee LTL pricing models, carrier bids, and margin optimization.
  • Continuously evolve carrier networks as customer volumes, lanes and service requirements change.
  • Partner with Sales to develop rate projections and quantify potential transportation savings for prospective customers.
  • Lead LTL RFPs from carrier solicitation and bid evaluation through negotiation, award, and implementation.
  • Build and manage carrier scorecards measuring performance across key metrics including on-time service, tender acceptance, claims, and cost competitiveness.
  • Monitor service performance, resolve escalated issues, and maintain service standards.
  • Oversee carrier freight bill audit and drive billing accuracy, recovery, and faster discrepancy resolution.
  • Use technology and data to improve visibility, reporting, and decision-making.
  • Analyze market and performance trends and translate them into actionable recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Develop, coach and mentor the LTL team.
  • Collaborate across Sales, Operations, and other areas to improve performance and eliminate silos.
  • Stay ahead of LTL market trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory changes.
  • Travel as needed to meet with carriers, customers, and industry partners.
