This position demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or arrange for the provision of appropriate care, for patients, as pertinent to the scope of nursing practice and specialty of the office setting. The LPN will appropriately and accurately document all patient care/interactions in the patient medical record. They will participate in telephone triage by obtaining clinically appropriate data and symptoms from the patient and advise and instruct patients according to established protocols and/or orders from the provider. The LPN will ensure that all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged, and that the provider is presented with all test results. This role involves pre-visit planning with the provider and care team, medication administration including injections, and checking vital signs, height, and weight. The LPN will assist with reviewing medication history and updating the medication list, and may assist with satisfaction of pertinent health maintenance requirements. They will assist providers during procedures and examinations and perform instrument and room clean-up, utilizing standard precautions. The LPN will comply with Policies; Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards; Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations; and The Joint Commission (TJC), Division of Facility Services (DFS), and other Regulatory Agency standards as applicable to the practice. They will report the patient's condition and reaction to the provider following procedures, medication administration, or treatments. The LPN will assist with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization as needed. They will participate in electronic documentation of care at the direction of the provider and may enter orders in EMR (computerized physician order entry CPOE) per provider order. This role includes completing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing, including Point of Care testing for Hemoglobin A1C and other Point of Care testing as applicable, and adhering to CLIA standards. The LPN will perform Quality Control and maintenance for Point of Care in-office lab procedures, as applicable, and perform venipuncture. They may be required to assist with the collection of specimens of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing, complete lab requisitions, and prepare specimens for pick-up. The LPN will provide the patient with a Depart Summary and review it at the end of the visit. They are responsible for all vaccine and pharmaceutical orders including applicable state Immunization Registry (NCIR) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) regulations and monitoring inventory levels of clinical supplies specific to the practice setting.
