About The Position

This is a part-time, regular position with a schedule of 24 hours per week, working day shifts. The LPN Trainee will be responsible for patient care, communication, and maintaining a safe environment within the Private Duty Nursing department. The role requires adherence to regulatory requirements, patient rights, and organizational policies. The trainee will monitor patients, assist with their needs as delegated by a registered nurse, and contribute to a positive patient and family experience. This includes effective documentation in the electronic medical record and utilization of hospital information systems.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider
CPR Certification to be obtained during CCHMC orientation and with renewal in accordance with organizational requirements
Completion of Crisis Prevention De-escalation Training obtained within 3 months of hire
Participates in all required CCHMC training and attends required in-services related to mental health training.

Responsibilities

Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, safety practices, and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information.
Respect confidentiality of patients, families, and employees.
Visually monitor patients at all times in the same room, including accompaniment to the bathroom.
Monitor the environment for safety, taking the patient's chronological age and developmental functions into consideration.
Integrate age-specific and culturally inclusive concepts into patient care.
Observe the patient and provide personal and safety needs as delegated by the registered nurse.
Reassure the patient and family that Patient Safety Attendant presence is for their safety.
Offer concise and respectful choices and consequences.
Adhere to individualized patient safety precautions.
Utilize supplies and equipment as directed.
Promote a calm patient environment, reduce environmental stimulation, and maintain clean, safe surroundings.
Maintain patient/family privacy and respect, exhibiting a nonjudgmental and empathetic attitude.
Contribute to a positive patient and family experience by listening to patients and families, remaining engaged, acknowledging feelings, and providing silent time for reflection.
Report patient needs to Patient Services staff.
Promptly report any change in patient behavior to the nurse.
Promptly call for assistance and notify the nurse of urgent or immediate patient needs/concerns.
Refer family to nursing staff as appropriate.
Demonstrate Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions.
Complete timely documentation of information in the patient medical record.
Assist with keeping the area organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
Respond and assist the clinical team as needed (e.g., transporting patients, gathering supplies, assisting with patient care).
Exhibit knowledge and behavior in emergency situations by responding to and alerting appropriate staff and helping with unit flow during an emergency.
Demonstrate effective documentation in the electronic medical record for assigned patients.
Demonstrate effective use of department information systems (e.g., patient call system, Voalte phones, desk phones, emergency code activation switch).
Utilize hospital information systems effectively (e.g., Outlook, Kronos, ELM, Mosby).
