About The Position

This role involves providing nursing care to office patients, with a primary focus on telephone triage and evaluation. The LPN/RN will assess patient complaints, obtain medical histories, document patient information, and communicate with physicians or nurse practitioners regarding patient symptoms and treatment plans. Responsibilities also include medication refills, assisting other departments, responding to medical emergencies, answering general health questions, and maintaining pharmaceutical supplies. The position requires obtaining and transmitting reports from outside agencies, ensuring patient confidentiality, and advocating for patient safety. The nurse will participate in quality improvement initiatives, identify learning needs, and attend staff meetings. Additional duties may include secretarial and clerical tasks, and general work-related duties as assigned. Collaboration and polite communication with colleagues, patients, and visitors are essential.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
  • Experience of current office technology
  • Proficient in computer office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years experience in a clinical setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triage and evaluate patients, mainly via telephone calls and some walk-in patients.
  • Obtain major complaints and brief medical history when necessary.
  • Complete chart documentation.
  • Inform physician or nurse practitioner of any patient symptoms that have been addressed and/or for guidance on resolving any issues.
  • Obtain patient's current medication regimen and refill medication orders.
  • Assist other departments as needs arise (e.g., Coumadin Clinic).
  • Respond to Codes and assist with medical personnel as needed.
  • Answer general health questions for patients via telephone or in office with advice, referral, or appointment under physician's direction.
  • Triage telephone calls with complete follow-through.
  • Maintain, order, and stock necessary pharmaceuticals weekly.
  • Obtain verbal and written reports from outside agencies and transmit them to the physician.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of information.
  • Serve as an advocate and provide a safe and secure environment.
  • Participate in the identification of important aspects of care and indicators for monitoring quality and appropriateness of care.
  • Assess personal and learning developmental needs and act as a resource person.
  • Participate in nursing and staff meetings and other activities that promote growth and development of nursing and patient care.
  • Assist with secretarial/clerical duties as needed, including filing, copying medical records, answering phones, taking messages, and faxing.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested/directed.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and communicate politely with department employees, patients, visitors, and other personnel.
