About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Detox Department is responsible for conducting comprehensive nursing assessments for each admission, including medical and social histories, vital signs, Preliminary Breath Tests (PBT), blood glucose levels, Tuberculosis (Tb) and Urine Drug Screen (UDS) testing. This role involves performing initial screening exams to determine the appropriateness of care level, entering and administering client home medications, and assisting with pharmaceutical record gathering. The nurse will administer on-site medications, treatments, and procedures according to standard nursing practices and Standing Orders. A key responsibility includes managing the security, administration, and record-keeping of controlled substances. The position may also involve wound care or minor soft tissue procedures, facilitating a client-centered intake process, assisting with de-escalation, and supporting the Advanced Practice Provider and/or Medical Director with implementing orders. Ensuring quality documentation, maintaining agency compliance through online trainings, and occasionally conducting on-site visits to satellite programs are also part of the role. Maintaining open communication between shifts and with other healthcare providers is essential.

Requirements

CPR/First Aid
Current Licensed LPN or RN in the State of Michigan
Nursing degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Strong compute and data entry skills a must
Good communication, writing, and charting skills

Nice To Haves

One year of related SUD or behavioral health experience and/or training is preferred.
EMR experience a plus
Experience with substance abuse treatment helpful
Ability to multitask and de-escalate stressful situations

Responsibilities

Conduct a full nursing assessment for each admission including, but not limited to, medical and social histories, obtain vital signs, Preliminary Breath Test (PBT); conducts blood glucose level (when indicated), Tuberculosis (Tb) and Urine Drug Screen (UDS) testing.
Perform an initial screening exam on new/walk-in clients to determine appropriateness for level of care.
Enter and administer all client home medications.
Assist with gathering pharmaceutical records when necessary.
Administer on-site medications, treatments and procedures according to standard nursing practices anD Standing Orders provided by ATS Medical Direction.
Responsible for the security, administration, and book-keeping/recording of controlled substances administered on site.
May need to perform or assist with wound care or minor soft tissue procedures.
A client-centered and engaged intake process.
Assist with de-escalating clients, as necessary.
Assist Advanced Practice Provider and/or Medical Director with implementing orders.
Ensure quality documentation of all patient-related services are completed and maintained.
Assist in agency compliance and development by keeping current with online agency trainings.
Occasionally responsible for on-site visits to various agency satellite programs to conduct client scheduled nursing appointments, medication reconciliations, and/or general nursing duties as required/requested.
Maintains open lines of communication between nursing shifts, as well as other programs, supervisors, physicians and other healthcare providers as indicated.
Admit Medical patients for treatment of opiate and/or alcohol withdrawal.
Conduct and interpret urine drug screens and breathalyzer tests for clients.
Medicate residential clients as needed.
Effectively communicate all pertinent client information at the beginning and end of each shift.
Charting/progress note of all clients at least once per shift.
Properly Discharge patients.
Count and Log Controlled Substances.
Work independently on-site, with an on-call medical provider.
Assist Nurse Practitioner/Medical Director as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Manager.
