Requirements

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license through the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients to determine immediate medical needs and prioritize care appropriately.
  • Perform pre-visit assessments and screenings prior to physician evaluation.
  • Collaborate with physicians by communicating patient information and contributing to care planning before, during, and after visits.
  • Accurately document patient information in the medical record, including: Allergies, Vital signs, Reason for visit, Current medications, Social and past medical history, Abuse screening, Fall risk assessment, Functional status, Advance directives.
  • Verify physician orders and safely prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments, including charge entry as required.
  • Ensure all lab and diagnostic reports are available in the patient’s medical record prior to visits.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and physicians regarding: Test and lab results, Medications, Appointments.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies to manage patient medications and complete prior authorizations in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly to patient messages and document all communications in the medical record.
  • Clean, sanitize, and prepare exam rooms between patient visits.
  • Assemble and organize supplies needed for procedures.
  • Provide patient education, privacy, and instructions before and after procedures.
  • Assist physicians during procedures by: Obtaining specimens, Completing required documentation, Delivering specimens to designated locations.
  • Maintain adequate stock of medications and clinical supplies.
  • Ensure medications are properly stored and organized, including: Labeling multi-dose vials with open date, expiration date, and initials.
  • Verify proper storage and integrity of surgical instruments and packaging.
  • Complete daily clinic logs and maintain organized records for compliance.
  • Perform monthly checks of emergency equipment (e.g., emergency kits and oxygen), ensuring seals/locks are replaced after use or as required.
  • Sort, review, and upload correspondence into patient medical records after physician sign-off.
  • Report regulatory or compliance issues promptly to the Office Manager and submit documentation/tickets as required.
  • Maintain adherence to clinic policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of newly hired nursing staff.
  • Train new employees on clinic workflows, processes, and best practices.
