About The Position

Charlotte Latin School seeks an Upper Grade Assistant Teacher. This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position that will begin in August 2026. The role involves assisting lead teachers with daily classroom tasks, including small group work for enrichment and reinforcement, carrying out age-appropriate activities, and providing classroom structure. The assistant teacher will also supervise children during play, lunch, and off-campus excursions to ensure their safety and learning. Maintaining an organized and efficient classroom is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group.
  • The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player.
  • Flexibility to shift focus on the spur of the moment, in working with colleagues and students, and in sharing classroom space.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to identify and prioritize the needs of the lead teacher and the classroom.
  • Willing and able to resolve conflicts with colleagues, parents, and between students.
  • Strong classroom management skills, commitment to safety, and civility.
  • Adept at both large and small group instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with using technology as an instructional tool.
  • Exhibit willingness to have a growth mindset for learning new material and new ways of teaching.
  • Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in grades 3-5 preferred.
  • Interest in teaching Mathematics; Experience with Math in Focus preferred.
  • Experience teaching in an independent school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist two lead teachers with daily classroom tasks.
  • Assist and/or lead small group work for enrichment and reinforcement.
  • Assist in carrying out a variety of age-appropriate and theme-related activities.
  • Assist the lead teacher in leading, supervising, and providing classroom structure.
  • Provide on campus supervision for play areas to ensure children's safety and learning.
  • Supervise lunch every day.
  • Provide support and supervision of off-campus excursions.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient classroom.
