About The Position

As part of the Assets team, the Lookdev artist is in charge of creating complex and realistic shading networks that support and meet the creative and photoreal goals. They work closely with the Lead Look Development to ensure that all their textures and shadings meet the look and aesthetic of the projects as well as the technical requirements of the pipeline.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ of Texture, Lighting and/or Look Development experience on high standard live action projects.
  • Strong creative skills and a thorough understanding of the techniques required to generate shading network using a combination of textures and shaders.
  • Thorough understanding of the shading process and the ability to both interpret designs and photoreal references.
  • Strong understanding of image color space relating to texture painting and reference neutralization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in defining and creating realistic assets.
  • Experience with rendering large datasets.
  • Excellent Maya skills and knowledge with nodal shading tools similar to Katana.
  • Familiarity with renderer such as Arnold.
  • Ability to come up with creative and efficient rendering solutions.
  • Excellent HDR understanding and light comprehension.
  • Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality controlling assets.
  • Ability to work well in a team and solve asset specific issues independently.
  • Previous film industry experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with USD format is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create realistic shading for digital assets using textures and photographic reference material and/or concept artwork.
  • Take direction from the Lead, Head of Builds, Asset Supervisor.
  • Apply client notes to all assets with minimal guidance.
  • Identify solutions and approaches to solve difficult assets.
  • Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets.
  • The shading work also includes fur, hair and potentially FX phenomena (cloud, dust, fire etc.).
  • Work closely with the modeling, groom and texture team to ensure that the geometry and all the elements are optimum.
  • Work with lighting TDs to resolve technical issues and ensure assets are optimized for rendering.
  • Work closely with Lead Lookdev Artist, Lead Lighting TD’s and supervisors to ensure that all assets work within the scope of lighting & color pipeline requirements.
  • Contribute to the turntable setup with the integration of lightrigs and neutralized references from the lighting and comp team.
