About The Position

This is a long-term substitute position for a Grade 2 Teacher at Pell Elementary, covering the period from September 2026 to December 2026. The role involves providing a comprehensive learning experience for students, adapting curriculum to individual needs, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid RI Certification: Elementary Education Teacher, Grades 1-6
  • Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student
  • Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process
  • Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training

Responsibilities

  • Provides learning experiences in reading, language arts, pre-reading, arithmetic, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students, utilizing courses of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee.
