About The Position

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing consistent instruction, supervision, and classroom management during an extended absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher follows the established curriculum and lesson plans while maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher supports the mission and values of Catholic education by serving as a positive role model and incorporating faith, respect, service, and Christian values into the daily classroom experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or appropriate educational background preferred; requirements may vary based on diocesan and school policies.
  • Previous classroom teaching or educational experience preferred.
  • Strong classroom-management, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow curriculum plans while adapting instruction to student needs.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Dependable, flexible, patient, and able to work independently.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, depending on school and diocesan requirements.
  • Must successfully complete required background checks, safeguarding training, and other diocesan/school requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and implement lesson plans, curriculum, and instructional expectations established by the regular classroom teacher and school administration.
  • Provide engaging, age-appropriate instruction that supports student learning and academic progress.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.
  • Take attendance and maintain required classroom records and documentation.
  • Assess and monitor student understanding and progress as directed by the regular teacher or school administration.
  • Provide appropriate support and accommodations for students with varying learning needs.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and other assigned activities.
  • Maintain consistent classroom management and enforce school policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal and appropriate school staff regarding student progress, classroom needs, and concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with parents and guardians as directed by school administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development, prayer, and other activities as required during the assignment.
  • Support the Catholic identity of the school through prayer, Christian example, and integration of Catholic values into the school day.
  • Leave organized records and relevant information for the returning classroom teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or school administration.
