About The Position

Darling International Canada Inc., is Canada's largest provider of rendering and recycling services to the food industry, operating six processing facilities across Canada. Darling Canada provides essential services for the efficient and environmentally responsible management of collecting, processing and recycling edible and inedible animal by-products. Darling is committed to environmental sustainability, superior quality and excellent customer service. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Logistics Supervisor will play a key role in supporting and executing department and organizational goals out of our Dundas, Ontario location. They will need to be knowledgeable in logistics tasks such as dispatch and customer service, as well as have strong employee management skills to work with the driver and production teams. Must be task focused, committed to continuous improvement and focused on employee relations in a unionized environment.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in a Business/Logistic discipline
  • Working knowledge/computer skills in Microsoft office, Oracle, People net, Road net or similar routing software required
  • Ability to coach, mentor and train employees
  • Strong ability to manage employees.
  • Dispatch experience is required
  • Working knowledge of MTO regulations and CVOR process
  • Strong communication and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work within a team atmosphere to achieve common goals
  • Ability to work independent and to provide professional Guidance/oversight to Logistic operators/maintenance staff
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to maintain routing efficiency

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of Transportation/Logistics experience preferred
  • 1-5 years Logistics Routing experience focusing on efficiencies preferred
  • 1-3 Supervisory experience within the transportation/Logistics environment preferred
  • Truck mechanical knowledge is an asset.
  • Commercial license considered an asset (AZ, DZ)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that company Health and Safety policies are being observed.
  • Manages with honesty, integrity and knowledge that promote the company's culture and values.
  • Develop, implement and maintain Standardized Operating Procedures for all functions related to the routes and equipment used to collect animal by-products.
  • Provide guidance to direct reports so that Standard Operating Procedures are understood and being followed and any deviations are noted as well as taking appropriate corrective action
  • Train and develop a team of drivers to execute the service expectations of our customers.
  • Foster an atmosphere of positive employee relationships by constantly talking with drivers, listening to their input and apply it wherever possible.
  • Design efficient routes on a daily basis which drivers will execute the following day, including rescheduling missed calls.
  • Manage scheduling of staff to account for vacation and absences to cover the daily dispatch.
  • Support root cause resolution of any Customer Service issues / complaints.
  • Coach, train, discipline drivers as necessary.
  • Calibrate with trucking team to provide input into capital purchasing for Ontario as it pertains to the ongoing replenishment of rolling stock.
  • Regulatory compliance of the fleet.
  • In order to effectively know the work conditions and constraints of their team, the Logistics Supervisor should schedule time to visit customer locations while service is being executed and be willing to 'ride-along' with drivers as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with Company policy
  • Troubleshoot problems with onboard computers, work with supplier to resolve issues.
  • Schedule equipment into garage to ensure PMs are kept up to date.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining and corrective actions implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, MTO, MOE, MOL.
  • Respond and handle client requests and/or issues in a timely manner to ensure clients satisfaction.
  • Coordinate/support with fleet maintenance company concerning commercial vehicle preventative maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Support the activities of team members, equipment and vehicle maintenance parties.
  • Other duties as required.
