About The Position

The Logistics Coordinator Dispatcher coordinates the daily routes of SPSA’s Transfer Vehicle Operators and contracted service drivers to pick up solid waste at Transfer Stations based on the daily volume and deliver the load to the Landfill or other disposal sites. Conducts daily check-in meetings with drivers to ensure pre-trip inspections are complete, review their daily route, and leave the yard in a timely manner. Maintains contact with Transfer Stations throughout the day to monitor volume and dispatch drivers as needed. Conducts safety training and performs supervisory duties in the manager's absence.

Requirements

  • Dispatching training course or an Associates in logistics or the equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years Fleet Management Software experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years Transportation Management Software experience (specifically Samsara).
  • Minimum of 3 years data entry experience
  • Class A commercial driver’s license.
  • Good DMV record with less than two (2) moving traffic violations and no DUIs in three (3) years.
  • Ability to effectively dispatch vehicles and coordinate workflow, motivating drivers to perform assigned duties in the absence of direct supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of tractor-trailer equipment operation and maintenance needs, sufficient to drive safely if required, and make required safety and maintenance checks.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of commercial vehicle operation.
  • Ability to maneuver a tractor-trailer combination at a fully competent level.
  • Knowledge of the local geographical area, ability to read and understand maps and utilize GPS systems.
  • Knowledge of traffic and safety rules and accident prevention practices.
  • Skill in the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment in adverse climate conditions.
  • Ability to provide verbal and written directions to drivers.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write basic reports and maintain logs, gather, and verify documentation.
  • Skill in working within deadlines to compete projects and assignments.
  • Skill in assessing, analyzing, identifying, and recommending solutions to problems.
  • Basic operational knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner while working through challenges as they may arise.

  • Follow traffic and safety rules, accident prevention practices, and standardized operating procedures.
  • Manually latch and unlatch, open, and close a 50–100-pound pressure trailer rear door.
  • Climb a portable staircase 13' 6" tall and push waste down to secure the load prior to closing the top.
  • Use provided three-point support system(s) that enables a person to use simultaneously two hands and one foot or two feet and one hand while ascending, descending, or moving about the machine/equipment.
  • Withstand bouncing and vibrations from driving on roads that are sometimes rutted and uneven.
  • Connect and disconnect electrical lines, air lines, and hydraulic lines.
  • Disconnect 5th wheel with fifty (50) pound pulling pressure and operate landing gear effectively.
  • Safely drop trailer on a safe surface and good knowledge on how to operate landing gear.
  • Adequately use arms and legs to allow for operation of manual gear shift.
  • Reach and extend hands and arms above shoulders in any direction.
  • Visually detect defective or worn-out parts and equipment and those which require cleaning and maintenance.
  • Manual dexterity to work with hand tools on equipment, surfaces, and components.
  • Bend and stoop to perform maintenance checks and minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Operate machinery in close working conditions requiring good eye/hand coordination.
  • Perform work in physically demanding environments, working in dusty, dirty, and odorous outdoor conditions year-round.
  • Visually identify loads for hazardous materials before transport.
  • Move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear, including protective clothing, hearing protection, safety goggles, hard hat, and safety steel shank boots.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the daily routes of SPSA’s Transfer Vehicle Operators and contracted service drivers to pick up solid waste at Transfer Stations based on the daily volume and deliver to the Landfill or other disposal sites.
  • Conducts a brief check-in meeting each morning with drivers to make sure they conduct their pre-trip inspections, review their daily routes, and leave the yard in a timely manner.
  • Notifies manager of any issues identified by divers on pre-trip inspections and coordinates repairs as needed.
  • Monitors Transfer Station waste volume throughout the day and dispatches drivers as needed.
  • Collects and reviews load tracking sheets at the end of each shift and updates reports as necessary.
  • Monitors progress of load pick-ups and deposits, including volume and trip times.
  • Monitors the efficiency of established routes and schedules using data and information systems and recommends improvements to management.
  • Provides periodic reports to management as needed.
  • Supervises staff in the absence of the manager to ensure efficient continuity of departmental operations.
  • May provide input to the performance appraisals of Transfer Vehicle Operators.
  • Assists the manager in accident investigations when called upon to do so.
  • Conducts staff safety training sessions with the manager on a monthly or regular basis.
  • Shows respect for workplace facilities and vehicles by maintaining a safe, orderly, and clean work environment.
  • Ensures appropriate and timely cleaning, maintenance, and repair of work areas, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • As needed, operates a tractor-trailer combination to transport solid waste between SPSA Transfer Stations and other disposal sites, including the Landfill, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
