About The Position

This contract, on-site position offers a unique opportunity for an Associate-level physician to provide expert diagnostic services in a dynamic healthcare environment. As a Locum Pathologist, you will play a vital role in the accurate diagnosis and interpretation of tissue samples, laboratory results, and pathological findings that directly influence patient care decisions. Working within our Medical Practice, you will collaborate closely with laboratory technicians, fellow physicians, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely and precise diagnostic outcomes across a wide range of cases.

Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
Board certification or board eligibility in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the jurisdiction of Georgetown.
Completion of an accredited residency program in Pathology.
Associate-level experience (typically 1-3 years) in pathology practice, including surgical pathology and laboratory medicine.
Strong proficiency in gross examination, histopathology, and cytopathology techniques.
Excellent diagnostic reasoning and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
Ability to work independently in an on-site setting while maintaining high professional standards.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Commitment to continuing medical education and staying current with pathology advancements.
Must be board-certified or board-eligible

Responsibilities

Examine and diagnose tissue specimens, biopsies, and cytology samples with precision and accuracy.
Interpret laboratory results and provide authoritative diagnostic opinions to guide patient treatment plans.
Perform autopsies and post-mortem examinations when required by the medical practice.
Collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, and other specialists to discuss complex cases.
Ensure compliance with all medical, legal, and ethical standards in pathology practice.
Document findings thoroughly in electronic medical records (EMR) and pathology reports.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review challenging diagnostic cases.
Supervise and mentor laboratory staff and pathology residents as needed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging diagnostic techniques and pathology research.
Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance procedures at all times.
Manage caseload efficiently to minimize turnaround times for diagnostic reports.
Provide expert consultation to clinicians regarding appropriate test selection and specimen handling.
