About The Position

This contract-based role offers a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality emergency care in a fast-paced medical practice environment while enjoying the flexibility of a locum tenens arrangement. As part of our medical team, you will be responsible for providing immediate, life-saving care to patients presenting with acute medical conditions, trauma, and urgent health concerns. You will work alongside experienced physicians, nurses, and support staff to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine required
  • Active and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Florida (or ability to obtain licensure prior to start)
  • Current DEA registration and BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications
  • Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience in an emergency department setting (Associate-level experience)
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure and make rapid, sound clinical decisions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent documentation skills with proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of a rotating schedule
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding the highest ethical standards
  • Demonstrated teamwork and adaptability in a dynamic, high-volume clinical environment
  • Local to Cape Coral or willing to relocate/commute for on-site work

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute and emergency medical conditions
  • Develop and implement immediate care plans, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests
  • Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, suturing, splinting, and central line placement as needed
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, specialists, and ancillary departments to ensure timely and effective patient care
  • Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and arrange appropriate admissions or transfers when required
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records in compliance with legal and regulatory standards
  • Provide clear communication to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care
  • Adhere to hospital and department protocols, including infection control and patient safety guidelines
  • Participate in shift handovers, ensuring seamless continuity of care for all patients
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to optimize patient flow and reduce wait times in the emergency department
  • Stay current with advances in emergency medicine through continuing medical education (CME) and training
  • Respond to emergency codes and acute clinical deterioration promptly and effectively
