About The Position

The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a Locksmith to work at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility. This role involves installing, repairing, and replacing various types of locks and locking devices, as well as performing preventative maintenance. The Locksmith will also be responsible for making new keys, maintaining records of locks and keys, and managing inventory of parts and equipment. In addition to locksmith duties, this position may also perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repairs in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, custodial, and groundskeeping areas. All hired applicants are required to attend 4 weeks of mandatory training through DYS, with the first week at Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility and the subsequent weeks at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. This training is paid for by the state and covers travel, lodging, and meals. DYS is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

Requirements

12 months training or 12 months experience in locksmithing.
3 months training or 3 months experience in inventory control.
Equivalent Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
Ability to operate personal computer to prepare and maintain work-related records, documentation and/or reports.
Ability to operate key duplicator, key cutter, and grinder.
Ability to operate machine tools and welding equipment.

Responsibilities

Install, repair, and replace locks and locking devices at Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Install, repair, and replace cylinder and key locks, door closers, and related locking hardware/devices.
Lubricate and adjust locks and locking devices, including changing combinations on safes, replacing tumblers and padlocks, repairing electronic locking devices, installing deadbolts, and making master locks and keys.
Make new keys using various machinery for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets, and safes.
Perform preventative maintenance on locks and doors, including inspecting locks for wear and malfunction and changing locking devices for security purposes.
Operate a personal computer to prepare and maintain work-related records, documentation, and reports, such as records of all door locks, identification of keys, keys issued, and inventory of parts, material, and equipment.
Prepare requisitions for parts, material, and equipment.
Make identification tags (chits) for employees, key rings, vehicles, and other devices.
Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repairs, including carpentry repairs (doors, locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, stairways).
Repair equipment such as light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, and electrical components of heating and cooling systems.
Repair plumbing equipment, including water and steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulations, valves, faucets, toilets, and sinks.
Perform custodial duties such as mopping, sweeping, waxing floors, and washing walls and windows.
Perform groundskeeping duties.
Remove snow and ice from sidewalks.
Inspect buildings and equipment for repairs or replacements and perform systematic and routine preventative maintenance of assigned areas.
Operate machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.
