Locate Technician-Lynchburg, VA
About The Position
The Locate Technician accurately identifies and marks underground utilities to support safe excavation and construction, prevent damage to critical infrastructure, and protect public safety. The role includes conducting site surveys, interpreting utility maps and blueprints, communicating utility-location information to construction teams and other stakeholders, and maintaining records in compliance with regulatory requirements. The technician follows safety procedures, keeps current with industry standards, technology, and regulations, may guide junior technicians and new team members, and responds to emergency locate requests. The position is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, and pays $20.00–$30.00 per hour.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in utility locating or a related field.
- Proven experience working with utility maps and blueprints.
- Experience with electronic locating equipment and GPS technology.
- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure and underground utilities.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency using electronic locating equipment and GPS devices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

- Respond promptly to emergency locate requests.
