About The Position

The Oregon Department of Justice’s Division of Child Support (DCS) is seeking to hire a Locate Specialist (Office Specialist 2)! Requirements

  • Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents.
  • An associate degree in any field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint-based criminal background check.
  • A driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges.
  • Adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer Service - experience working with the public, including answering routine questions regarding your employer's programs or services, laws, policies, benefits, or participant requirements.
  • Attention to Detail - experience with critical thinking and reading to ensure accurate case management or record keeping. In this role you work with items that are sensitive and mistakes can impact the safety of customers.
  • Experience reading and interpreting judicial orders, contracts, or other legal documents.
  • Computer Skills - experience using various electronic databases and computer applications to research and compile information such as Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in more than one system simultaneously.
  • Ability to accurately keyboard 45+ wpm
  • Ability to maintain professional composure, tact, and friendliness while working with the public who may be irate, hostile, and/or emotionally distraught.
  • Adaptability when facing change in job processes and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work the Unknown Parent caseload to locate and identify participants.
  • Verify and update participant demographics.
  • Access Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) to obtain information about participants including verifying deportation status, incarceration status and obtaining photos for identification purposes.
  • Process locate activities from the Federal Parent Locator Service (FPLS) or States Parent Locator Service (SPLS) requests.
  • Assist field staff with death verification requests.
  • Identify missing information and contact parties or their attorney to obtain information needed to proceed with case creation or opening.
  • Update relevant data to participant and case records to allow for appropriate next steps when the case assigns to the District Attorney or DCS field offices.
  • Code cases for appropriate course of action; send forms and documentation to parties and attorneys as needed.
  • Provide general office support, including but not limited to: copying and filing of documents, preparation of documents for review, processing of incoming and returned physical and electronic mail.
  • Other duties as assigned.
